Criteria for Student Involvement in CBR Projects
Students may be involved in CBR Projects through the CHCP if they meet the following criteria:
- Have developed skill and knowledge in aspects of research;
- Have supervision in place by a faculty member and have CBR experience as a course requirement;
- Have worked in a community setting and/or taken a course with community focus; and
- Have completed the required orientation prior to commencing project activities. Orientation includes:
- Community-based research: definitions, approaches, strategies etc;
- Issues and strategies in working in a community setting;
- Research ethics, Douglas College policies on research and research ethics;
- How to handle data confidentially, strategies to use when problems with data collection arise or when problematic areas are revealed during data collection;
- The agency: roles, mandate, goals, clientele, culture, contact individuals;
- The parameters of the project, the agency and their role; and
- Have reviewed the CHCP website materials on Roles and Responsibilities in CBR: Agency, Faculty, CHCP and Student.
