The Centre is currently developing projects that provide opportunities for involvement of faculty and students in community-based research and community service-learning. These projects are summarized here, with the details below:

Details:      

  • Lu's: A Pharmacy for Women(Downtown East side): participate in developing evaluation framework and in data collection on the demonstrating value project 

 

  • Health Literacy  framework:  Be involved with a range of partners who are working to create a provincial strategy for Health Literacy 

 

  • Alcohol and Drug Education Services: (Port Coquitlam) 
    • Working with sports groups on drug awareness education
    • Assistance with parent education groups regarding drug/alcohol use prevention 

 

  • Tri-Cities Intercultural Workplace Project 
    • Assist with development of an evaluation framework for the project. Involves development of tools, collection, analysis and interpretation of data 
    •  Can involve successive groups of students for a semester over the length of the project (Jan 2010 - February 2011) 

 

  • Crossroads Hospice Society: (Tri-Cities):
    • Group of students to create a story/documentation of the creation and work of the hospice
    • Assist with the translation of materials used by the society
    • International: potential projects in Nepal, or Vietnam
    • Potential research projects:
      • What are the current bereavement services provided in community and what is needed?
      • Effect of music therapies in the bereavement process
      • Death and dying from a variety of cultural perspectives
      • Barriers to access services and information
      • What other labyrinths are around, how are they used? What are their benefits

 

  • City of Coquitlam: Parks and Leisure Services:
    • Potential to conduct a health/ fitness/recreation fair for seniors
