International Co-Op

A co-op is a cooperative education and work experience program between an institution who provides students with an academic experience and an employer who provides a related workplace experience. Co-ops can be paid or unpaid.

Disney International/University of California Riverside (UCR)

The University of California, Riverside in partnership with Douglas College offers academic coursework as well as supervised paid training at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida. The program starts with an intensive two-week study at UCR where students obtain their Certificate in Management or Hospitality and Tourism Management. This is followed by a six-month paid training through the Disney International College Program.

During your six months at the Walt Disney World Resort, you will also take a course online from UCR. Students can earn academic credit for their program. Click here for more information.

This program begins in early July and ends in late December. Each year in the Fall and Winter semesters, representatives from UCR and Disney hold information sessions and interview students for their admission and placements. To participate, check the Disney/UCR Visit Schedule. You will be submit a completed application form to UCR and Disney as well as pay an up-front program fee.

Business Challenge for Youth

During this program, you will gain knowledge of the world’s biggest manufacturing center and have the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship through meetings and dinner events with senior Canadian and Chinese executives.

International co-op students are eligible to apply for an International Studies Award [http://www.douglas.bc.ca/ways-to-study/study-abroad/international-studies-award.html]. You can also attend a pre-departure session offered by Douglas International.

Co-op students must complete a Travel Abroad Information Form and sign a completed Emergency Contact Form and a Release of Liability Form. These forms must be dropped off to the attention of Karen Ng at the Douglas College International Office at least one month before you leave.
