Salute to Aboriginal Student
There is a longing in the heart of my people to reach out and grasp that which is needed for our survival. There is longing among the young of my nation to secure for themselves and their people the skills that will provide them with a sense of worth and purpose. They will be our new warriors. Their training will be much longer and more demanding more determination and separation from home and family. But they will emerge with their hands held forward to grasp the place in society that is rightfully theirs.

Chief Dan George was hereditary chief of the Tsleil-waututh (Salish) Nation in Burrard Inlet, British Columbia. He was born 'Geswanouth Slahoot', on July 24, 1899, in North Vancouver, British Columbia and died September 23, 1981, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Chief Dan George was noted for his acting career which he started at the age of 61. He was also a writer, some of his best known written works are: My Heart Soars - My Spirit Soars - You Call Me Chief.
