Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing

Douglas College's Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing is the province's first degree program in psychiatric nursing. This program can be completed in four years (eight semesters) of full-time study.

In your first year, you will complete two semesters of associated studies in subjects like Psychology, Microbiology and other university-transferrable electives. The following three years, you will learn the specialized knowledge and skills needed to provide safe, comprehensive and holistic care to individuals, families, groups and communities in a variety of mental health contexts.

The four-year degree program will expand your future career opportunities (e.g. leadership roles). You will also be able to continue your education in a variety of graduate programs.

The program is approved by the Provincial Government and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC). At program completion you'll be eligible to apply to the CRPNBC to write the licensure exam and on successful completion apply for provincial nursing licensure.

For program requirements and course outlines, see Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing in the College Calendar.
