About Psychiatric Nursing

Psychiatric Nursing - Resources

What is Psychiatric Nursing?

Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) are professionals in the mental health field and work in a complex, interdisciplinary health care environment. The regulatory body for Registered Psychiatric Nurses in British Columbia is the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC). Registrants with the CRPNBC are able to use the title of RPN after their name. The Douglas College Department of Psychiatric Nursing programs, both degree and diploma, prepare students for registration with the CRPNBC.

RPNs help people with mental health disorders including people with addictions and substance use concerns. RPNs promote mental, emotional, and physical health in their work with individuals of different ages, families, groups, and communities. Although the work is demanding, it is interesting and meaningful.
