Upgrade for business programs

Have you thought about entering the exciting field of business?

  • Do you feel 100 percent ready to enter college/university level courses to study business?
  • Do you possess background knowledge of business that will allow you to work with other competitive business students?
  • Do you possess word processing skills that enable you to produce business-ready documents, complete with tables, graphs and the necessary components for presentations?
  • Do your writing, reading and math skills meet all the prerequisites for Douglas College Business programs and courses?

If you answered NO to any of these statements, then the new PRE-BUSINESS FOUNDATION PROGRAM at Douglas College will be right for you.

The one-semester Pre-Business Foundation Program starts in September and finishes in December, in time for you to enroll in the Business department in January. The program is designed for students needing upgrading or for those who may have been away from schooling and recognize they could benefit from a refresher program for entrance into business programs. By enrolling in this four-course program, you will gain many skills that will improve your chances of success at the college.

You will develop professional writing and reading expertise so that you are familiar with current business topics and vocabulary. You will improve your academic writing and reading comprehension skills, using business-based materials. The courses will give you the opportunity to learn about current topics of interest and concern to the business community.

You will advance your word-processing ability and increase skills to communicate effectively in today's business world. The program will allow you to develop these skills by producing papers and assignments in both your reading/writing and word-processing courses.

While obtaining the necessary math prerequisite, your math skills will improve as you will see how they apply to real economic scenarios and decision-making. The learning will help you understand the business mathematics you will be faced with in articles and texts about business.

You will also earn three university-transfer business credits that you can apply towards further education. You will enroll in the course Business Explorations (BUSN 1198) and gain the opportunity to survey the many aspects of the field of business.
