If you're an elementary or high school teacher who wants to start teaching physical education, or are already teaching PE and want to upgrade your skills, consider the Post-Degree Diploma in Physical Education from Douglas College. This graduate diploma focuses on applied learning, with a broad range of courses that will give you knowledge and skills you can put to use in the classroom.

Part-time graduate diploma

This two-year, part-time program is designed for working teachers, with classes held evenings, weekends and online, and extended holiday breaks to allow for the uneven workload of a teaching schedule.

TQS upgrading

Graduates of this program are eligible for Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) upgrading. You'll be able to move up to a category 5 or 5+ (depending on your starting point), effectively increasing your earning potential and your value in the workplace.

Program cost

Tuition fees for this two-year, 30-credit graduate diploma program are approximately $3200. Note: this number does not include student fees or textbooks. Costs are subject to change - see Program Costs for the most up-to-date information on tuition fees.

Location of classes

Evening classes take place at the Douglas College New Westminster Campus - just steps from the New Westminster SkyTrain station - and online. You'll also participate in a three-week summer institute in July of each year, which takes place on campus and in locations in the surrounding community.

Program start date

The Post-Degree Diploma in Physical Education Program has an intake annually in the Fall semester. Applications are typically accepted up to one year in advance. Application deadline is April 30th, however, early applications are encouraged and can lead to early acceptance. See the College Calendar for information on applying.

Prerequisites

In order to gain entry into the Post-Degree Diploma in Physical Education Program, you must have:

  • a Bachelor's Degree
  • a British Columbia teacher's certificate, or experience working with children

If you meet the admission requirements, apply online or in person through Application and Registration Services. Applications are accepted starting one year before the program start date. Spaces are limited - apply early!
