Michael Strutt
Michael Strutt studied the guitar with Julian Bream and was a featured soloist in the BBC documentary of Bream's 1965 Master Class. In 1968, he was first prize winner in the Granada Television music competition New Faces. Continuing his studies with Jose Tomas in Spain, his performance in the Concurso Internacional de Guitarra won him a concert series in Alicante province and full scholarship to the famous Santiago de Compostella master class.
Michael Strutt has performed throughout Canada and was a faculty member at McGill University, Concordia University and the University of Ottawa. He now teaches at Douglas College and is Adjunct Professor of Guitar at the University of British Columbia School of Music.
Michael Strutt has acquired recognized expertise in the area of contemporary Canadian music through his numerous performances and broadcasts of Canadian guitar music. His articles on the subject have appeared in Guitar Canada, Guitar Toronto and Classical Guitar Magazine.
In addition to solo concerts, he performs with the Vancouver Guitar Quartet, Allegra (a flute and guitar duo) and Duo Sarasate (violin and guitar). His recordings range from CBC broadcasts, to his album KOMACHI described by Guitar International as "unfailingly poetic and musical," to the soundtrack of the motion picture Salvador.
