Upgrade for human service programs at college

Are you thinking of a career working with children, youth, families or communities? Do you need to improve your English or other learning skills?

Human Services Foundation (DVST 0356), is specially designed for students seeking upgrading to enter College programs in human services. By enrolling you will:

  • upgrade your English
  • develop writing, reading and vocabulary skills directly related to careers in human services
  • learn in a supportive environment with other students preparing for human and community service careers

You will be able to improve your English skills for Douglas College human service programs.

Where can I go after completion?

Enrolling in Human Services Foundation (DVST 0356) will focus you on English and related skills needed in college-level human service programs. Douglas College is a leader in human service education, offering excellent programs in the Faculty of Child, Family and Community Studies (CFCS):

As a student in Human Services Foundation, you'll learn in a supportive environment with other students who share your interests. You'll learn with experienced faculty who understand the human service fields. You will be in classes for 12 hours per week, with learning that allows you to explore the values, ethics and practices of providing human services to community members.

If you achieve mastery of this course and are accepted into one of five Integrated CFCS Programs, you will be given credit for CFCS 1110.

2. Complete the CFCS English Language Assessment or the Developmental Studies Reading and Writing Assessment.

The Human Services Foundation course is tuition-free for students who have not graduated from high school and do not have a General Education Development certificate (GED). Other, smaller fees apply. Financial Aid for fees, including tuition fees for high school graduates and those with GED certificates, may be available.
