Lobbyist/Civil Liberties Advocate

Lobbyists and civil liberties advocates range from volunteers in the general public to professionals with formal qualifications such as lawyers. The requirements for this type of work varies greatly. A lobbyist or civil liberties advocate may be involved in the following:

  • Challenging parts of statutes
  • Lobbying the government for change
  • Conducting studies to obtain the information to challenge the statutes or status quo
  • Assisting persons with complaints involving civil liberties or human rights issues
  • Intervening in legal cases
  • Participating in public discussions
