Bailiff
Bailiffs are hired by private firms contracted out by the BC Ministry of Attorney General, Court Services Branch. The position involves a considerable amount of walking and driving. Bailiffs usually work nine hour shifts and overtime work is usually necessary.
Bailiffs will generally perform the following duties:
- Keeping accounting of trust funds
- Interpreting relevant laws
- Enforcing court-ordered seizures of assets
- Selling of assets
- Disbursement of proceeds in accordance with legislation
- Keeping accurate records of the seizure and sale of assets
Minimum requirements of applicants include:
- Age of 19 years or older
- Canadian citizenship
- Criminal record check
- Background check
- Fingerprinting
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Executing a Court Order course
- Communication skills
- Note taking skills
- Ability to learn new information and skills
- Ability to make sound judgments
- Ability to defuse hostile situations
In addition, preferred credentials include:
- Work experience in a related field such as law enforcement
