Choral Society History
The DCCS was founded in 1983 under the directorship of Tatsuo Hoshina, who was the head of vocal activities in the Douglas College Music Department from 1971 until 1998. For ten years the DCCS was composed of Douglas College music students and community members, and performed a repertoire of great choral works from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In 1993 the DCCS was re-formed into a community choir for intermediate to advanced singers from New Westminster, Burnaby, Surrey and the Tri-Cities area. From 1993 until 1998 The DCCS was directed by Canadian music educator and conductor Patricia Rolston, who is the founding director of the Music Department at Hamilton's Mohawk College and conductor of the Mohawk College Singers. Alison Nixon directed the choir from 1998 until the spring of 2010, performing many major works in the choral repertoire. In the fall of 2010, with Eric Hannan as music director, the choir once again included Douglas College students and community members.
