Do It Right!  Most professionals are aware of the proposed structural changes coming to the career development and supported employment sectors in BC.  Change equals opportunity for effective practitioners, with strong job development and other employment related skills, who will thrive in any environment. The Do It Right approach will help you understand key elements of the supported employment and job development process, and enable you to take a leadership role in increasing employment outcomes in your organization. In the Do It Right course, you will gain an improved understanding of the following:

 Instructors:  Bob Logelin, BA, MEd.  Bob has been training and employing people with learning difficulties and disabilities for over 25 years.  He has received numerous awards for his work including the DRN Award of Excellence.  Bob is the Department Head of ASE Programs at Douglas College, and was the Principal of Victoria Vocational College and Vice President of Cosmic Construction.  He is the author of “Standards for Best Practice: A Guide to Effective Training” and “Employment Program Standards” (MCFD).

Manon Gelinas is the Manager of North Shore Employment Connexions, a successful, values based, SE program for PWD, recently supporting over 30 individuals into quality employment situations.

Job Club "Like" Training (JC"L"T)

New 2012.  In alignment with the new BC Employment Program, Douglas College will be offering a Job Club "Like" Training starting in the Fall 2012.  The new name will be announced in the summer 2012.  Watch this website for details.

For almost two decades, Douglas College has offered Job Club Leadership Training (JCLT).  Thousands of individuals have been trained in this method.  We are moving forward to provide the best possible training to career development practitioners working in the new model of service.

The new BC Employment Program has provided the opportunity to revise and implement a new training course, to meet the needs of employees and employers to offer Job Club "Like" Training.  We will continue to offer JC"L"T in partnership with BC Career Development Association (BCCDA).

Upon successful completion of this course participants will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and confidence in Job Club "Like" Training. JC"L"T focuses on group facilitating and awareness, communication skills, professional attitude and the application of a behavioural model.  Evaluation includes videotaped lesson presentation, written assignments and through performance and interaction throughout the sessions.

Personality Dimensions® in partnership with Sandy McLeod

Become certified in Personality Dimensions Level 1 and learn how to use this dynamic tool to identify personality strengths and preferences with a focus on existing strengths and emerging human potential. 

Personality Dimensions® is a dynamic tool based on the culmination of the research and validation work that has been done in Canada over the past five years.

Personality Dimensions® emphasizes the self-discovery process, and utilizes colour-coded cards to represent the four major personality strengths and preferences with a focus on existing strengths and emerging human potential.  To be eligible for certification, complete this 21 hour course.  Upon successful completion of the exam (last day), you will be certified and qualified to purchase Personality Dimensions training and related materials, and promote yourself as a Qualified Facilitator (Level I). 

 
It is recommended to schedule four (4) hours study time in addition to classroom time.

Who should attend:  Career Practitioners, HR Personnel and Business Managers.  Personality Dimensions® is an excellent tool for career exploration, employee development and team building with similar applications as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and True Colors.

CDP Theories Bridging Course (10 Hours)

Career Development Theories Bridging (10 hours) course is designed for those who have already taken a 20 hour theories course (from Douglas College or another institution) to complete the necessary hours to receive equivalent credit for the Douglas College Theories, Models & Strategies CDPP 750 (30 hours) in the Career Development Practitioner Certificate Programs.

Social Media for CDP  (4.5 Hours)

Social Media for CDP is an introduction to the concepts of social media and social networking and how it's changing the way people find employment. This interactive class will explore the top three social networking sites and how they're used in job search: Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Uncover how to build a stand out social media profile, how to network with people in any industry and where to find job postings using these social media platforms. Participants will gain the information how to refer and help clients develop online job ready profiles and guide them through the steps to finding their next job using Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
