Instructional Skills (30 hours)

Gain the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to prepare lesson plans and to practice instructional techniques and skills in a supportive environment.

Labour Market Information (30 hours)

Gain an understanding of global and demographic changes and how to use this information in the career planning process with your clients. Focuses on the current information available on occupations and generic skills for the "new" economy and how to use the National Occupational Classification System. Different approaches to occupational forecasting and the use of transferable and labour market skills, as well as specific resources, are featured (course materials included).

Practicum Preparation

This course is designed for approved students in preparation for a CDP practicum.  Topics include: the processes involved in selecting and obtaining a practicum site, expectations of students, an overview of the roles involved (student, practicum coordinator, field supervisor and on site supervisor) and identifying the student's practicum objectives.  This course is open to all CDP students upon approval.  Contact Cathy Sales, CDP Practicum Coordinator salesc@douglas.bc.ca

 Prerequisite:  Approval from instructor and Practicum Preparation Course CDPP 763

A 70 hour Practicum involves placement in an agency with an opportunity to practice skills learned in the program. A CDP instructor and on-site employee will provide supervision. Students are encouraged to find their preferred practicum site, however, please ask your instructor or the Practicum coordinator for suggestions and practicum sites.
