Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care
Program Details
The Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care Degree Program (BA CYC) offers the opportunity for human services diploma graduates to continue their education with a further two years of study. It is designed to prepare graduates for challenging work supporting children, youth and families as professional child and youth care workers as well as advanced positions in the child and youth care field. The BA CYC program will prepare you for new challenges in the field of child and youth care. You can also choose to include a specialization in Youth Justice or Child Protection in your degree.
Courses
The BA CYC program is designed for professionals already working in the field. Core courses are offered in the late afternoon and evening. The program can be taken as a full-time two-year program, or as a part-time program completing the electives over a longer period of time.
You'll take courses that will include integrating theory and practice as well as advanced skill courses working with individuals, groups and families. You'll also have the opportunity to put your theory into practice through the two practicums that are required throughout the Program. For detailed course descriptions, see the College Calendar.
Some courses in the CYCC program may be challenged for credit through the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Service. If you have knowledge or skills that relate to this field, contact the PLAR office for more information.
The Douglas College Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care follows the Child and Youth Care Educators Consortium Articulation agreements. If you have completed a diploma in the human services field (other than the CYCC Diploma from Douglas) you can find out about transfer options from the Child and Youth Care Educators Consortium website.
