Student Ambassador Program

The Douglas College Student Ambassadors are a select group of student leaders from across campus who are making a significant contribution to the college community while developing advanced personal, professional and leadership skills. Working closely with the Office for New Students (ONS), they represent and promote Douglas College to current and prospective students, guests, and alumni.

The Role

Student Ambassadors play a key role in a variety of campus activities, including:

New Student Orientation programs
Participate in over 70 different college events annually
Campus Community Spirit events
New Student Recruiting and Community Events
Campus partner events and committees
Alumni events

The Program & Rewards

Through the planning and production of these activities, Student Ambassadors will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of professional skills, such as team leadership, marketing, communications, and event management. There are 3 different levels within the Student Ambassador program. These different levels were introduced to fairly reward the time and effort of Student Ambassadors.

Participating in one event is equal to one point.

One to three points (1-3)

Nine points and over (9+)

Eligibility to attend SA retreat

The Commitment

The Office for New Students expects that all Student Ambassadors will:

Contribute in a significant way to the majority of Ambassador monthly events
Attend and participate in monthly workshops (each month will alternate between campus locations from New Westminster campus to David Lam campus and likewise)
Respect any commitments they make to Ambassador team mates or ONS team
Realize they are a representative of themselves, the Office for New Students, and Douglas College, and will maintain a level of professionalism in any role they may be in
Commit to an average 5-10 hours per month of activity (according to individual schedule)
Maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
Serve a minimum of one Early Summer Orientation and one Late Summer Orientation Event

Each may the points system will start over for each Student Ambassador. The system was developed based on the attendance by active Ambassadors over the past year and it was found that they all attain a minimum of 9 events over 2 semesters.

Please note that when you sign up for an event, you are making a commitment to be there, we depend on you...
Let us know if you are unable to attend with 24 hours notice.. or you will be penalized and be given minus one point.

The Bottom Line

Through their dedication, imagination and initiative, the Student Ambassadors are creating a legacy of leadership and success that will resonate on campus for decades to come. The Student Ambassador program is an opportunity for students to build upon not only their resume but their professional skills.

Stop by the Office for New Students at the New Westminster campus in room A2847A. This office is located near the south elevator on the second floor. When you see Financial Aid take a right and the office is across the hallway from the Women's Centre.

At the David Lam campus in Coquitlam, the office room number is A1360. A1360 is located in the A building.
