Meet the ONS Staff

Welcome to the staff page of the Office for New Students!

Eric Glanville

Eric Glanville, Manager

Eric went to high school in Burnaby, BC, completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology at SFU, and completed his Master's degree in Leadership from Royal Roads University.  As a student leader he helped to produce freshmen orientation programs, campus spirit events, and Western Canada's largest outdoor dance party. Since then he's spoken about academic and professional success strategies with more than 3,250 students at high schools, colleges and universities across the province.

As the Manager, Office for New Students for Douglas College, Eric is responsible for new student recruitment and transition programs as well as campus life and student leadership activities. "I love meeting new students, and helping them define and achieve their personal and professional goals," he says.  "The 'college years' are an exciting time of self-discovery and growth -- it's a privilege to be a part of that experience for the students at Douglas College."

Melody McKiernan, Student Outreach Coordinator

Melody did her undergraduate studies in French Language and Literature at the University of Victoria. While at UVic, she was involved in various facets of student life. Melody was a teaching assistant in the French and Physical Education departments. Most significantly, she served as an Orientation Coordinator for three years. She recruited, trained, scheduled and organized programs for new students.

As a Student Outreach Coordinator, Melody has her hands full with promoting, coordinating, implementing, organizing and facilitating strategies and programs for student recruitment and orientation. She also enjoys building great relations with the other staff as well as finding new and exciting ways to make the educational experience more rewarding.

Jill Sutherland, Student Development Coordinator

Jill completed her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and English Literature at SFU.  Having worked within private industry for many years Jill made the move to Douglas College in order to work with students.  "I had really great experiences during my post-secondary journey and wanted to find a way to give back to the post-secondary community," she says.  "Douglas College has provided me the oppportunity to help create a great student experience."

As the Student Development Coordinator for Douglas College, Jill is responsible for new student recruitment and orientation programs as well as student leadership activities. As the newest member of the Office for New Students at Douglas College, she looks forward to creating strong relationships with the other staff as well as finding innovative and exciting ways to enhance the educational experience of all students.
