Candid Transitions

Candid Transitions - For Students, by Students.

What is the first year of College like? How will you juggle everything in your life, plus all the new demands and expectations of College? Who will you meet? How will you change? And what are you doing at College anyway?

These are the questions you and every other first-year college student want answers to, so we are looking for a few good students to document their experiences at the college and their lives during their first semester, then share their stories with others on our Candid Transitions web page.

Are you interested in becoming a local celebrity? In sharing your thoughts on being a first year student with the world? If so please email us at information@douglas.bc.ca with a short bio and why you think you would be good, to apply to be part of Candid Transitions II!

Meet the Transitioners from last year!

Valerie Valerie

Already an amateur shutterbug, Valerie, 21, is in the Associate of Arts degree programme with plans to pursue a career in teaching. She works part time, takes 4 courses at both campuses and loves to read, watch movies and go camping in the summer. What would she do right now if she could? Go skydiving.

Chris Headshot Chris

Chris plans to specialize in International and Intercultural Relations with the goal of returning to his native Montreal as a Professor of History. When he's not completely overwhelmed with school work, this recent graduate of Riverside Secondary in Port Coquitlam loves to kick back with his gaming buddies.

Priscilla Priscilla

For Priscilla, 26, life at college is full of new challenges. She has recently arrived from Victoria and is taking 16 credits in the Associate of Science program with a view to becoming a medical doctor. Priscilla is a member of the Tsartlip First Nations. She also writes poetry and volunteers in programs such as Junior Achievement.

Nat Headshot Natalie

Nat is one busy blogger. In addition to teaching figure skating, she is actively involved in wrestling and rugby, plus she's taking courses at both the DL and NW campuses. Nat is a graduate of Heritage Woods Secondary in Port Moody and wants to be a police officer.

Adam Adam

Life on the under-side of a car was not for Adam Rigetti, 23, who recently made the decision to leave his job as a mechanic and become a full-time Douglas College student. Adam aspires to a career in teaching tech ed. He also loves the guitar - listening to it and playing it - and is a major Star Wars fan.

Mike Mike

Mike, or "Zi", 18, immigrated to Canada from China just 3 months ago. He loves rock music (he even played in a band back in China) and has recently started playing soccer in Port Moody. Read on to discover the many unexpected "firsts" Mike is experiencing in his new life in Canada and his new life as a Douglas College student.
