Medical Services Plan (MSP) Coverage
The Medical Services Plan is your basic medical coverage provided by the province. For eligible employees, Douglas College pays your premiums (pro-rated if you are part-time) as part of your benefit package.
Your dependents are covered, but they must qualify as residents and include:
A spouse (either married or living in a marriage-like relationship) or
An unmarried child or legal ward, supported by you, and under 19, or under 25 and in full-time attendance at a school or university
Children are no longer eligible for coverage as dependents when they:
- marry or live in a marriage-like relationship
- start full-time employment, or
- turn 19 years of age
Note: Coverage can continue to age 25 for dependents who are full-time students. Full-time student status must be reconfirmed each year to maintain dependent status. The Medical Services Plan will send a form to you confirming your dependent child's status.
When children are no longer eligible for coverage as dependents, it is their responsibility to apply for separate coverage.
To add a dependent, the MSP Group Change Form (PDF) must be completed and forwarded to the Human Resources Department, along with a copy of the dependent's birth certificate or Health Care number. The MSP Group Change form must also be completed to delete a dependent, change personal information or your mailing address and forwarded to the Human Resources Department.
Contact Human Resources if you have questions regarding the completion of this form.
