Education Council Elections

Education Council    Student By Election    February 8-13th  
 Faculty         

Under the College and Institutes Act, a faculty member is defined as:

"an instructor, librarian, tutor, counsellor, research associate, program coordinator or other employee of the institution that a collective agreement between the bargaining agents, as defined in section 1 of the Labour Relations Code, for the institution and faculty members specifies to be a faculty member."
  • Faculty will elect ten representatives who serve for a term of two years and may be elected to further terms.
  • The following Faculties/departments or areas will elect one representative each:
    • Child Family & Community Studies
    • Commerce & Business Administration
    • Developmental Education
    • Health Sciences
    • Humanities & Social Sciences
    • Language, Literature & Performing Arts
    • Learning Resources
    • Pure & Applied Science & Technology
    • Student Services
    • Faculty member at large

Voting for each representative will take place within each constituent group. Faculty holding appointments in more than one department will be considered eligible to be nominated or vote within the department where he or she teaches the highest percentage of their individual course load. If the percentage is equal, the faculty member must designate his/her constituency of choice to the Registrar.

Staff

Under the College and Institutes Act, support staff is defined as:

"the employees of the institution who are not the president, educational administrators or faculty members."
Student

 

Under the College and Institutes Act, a student is defined as:
"a person the Registrar recognizes to be enrolled and in good standing in a course or program of studies at the institution"

Note: Student candidates must be currently enrolled in at least 50 percent of their courses at the college campus they plan to represent.

  • Students will elect four representatives who serve for a term of one year and may be elected to further terms.
  • The following area will elect two representatives:
New Westminster Campus students -- consisting of students who are registered in 50% of their courses offered at the New Westminster campus
Coquitlam Campus students -- consisting of students who are registered in 50% of their courses offered at the Coquitlam campus

Voting for each representative will take place within each constituent group.  Student's campus course designation will be determined from the Student Information System.
