Reflective Practice

The following programs and services are designed to promote reflective practice at Douglas.

The Faculty Peer Mentoring Program (Peer FM)

  • The Douglas College Faculty Peer Mentoring Program (Peer FM) encourages reflective practice.
  • Newer faculty are paired with senior faculty who have considerable classroom experience.
  • The Peer FM program encourages discussion of the art and craft of teaching.

Instructional Skills Workshops (ISWs)

ISWs are four-day intensive courses that give participants practical experience in developing or augmenting effective teaching, learning and presentation skills. ISWs allow participants to:

  • review instructional theory and teaching strategies
  • participate in a collaborative environment
  • develop, teach, receive peer feedback about, and reflect upon, three mini-lessons.

Opening Classroom Doors

The Opening Classroom Doors initiative seeks to make teaching and learning more visible by allowing College employees to visit classes that are in progress.

  • Faculty from across disciplines welcome observers into their classrooms.
  • Both visitors and hosts meet at a later date for discussion and debriefing.
