SFU University Transfer
College Transfer
General Requirements
You may be considered for admission if you have completed, or are in the process of completing, 24 units of transferable course work. You may transfer up to a maximum of 60 units towards your degree program.
The GPA required for admission can change from term to term; last year, the GPA required for admission ranged from 2.25 to 3.50 depending on the program. Your admission average is calculated on all transferable courses. If you repeated a course, only the higher grade will be used to calculate your average. A transfer guide listing all first and second year transferable courses along with the SFU equivalent is available online at www.bctransferguide.ca Courses not listed in the transfer guide are not transferable.
If you have completed fewer than 24 units, you will be required to meet the secondary school admission requirements. Applicants in this category who have attempted nine or more units of transferable course work with a GPA less than 2.00 (or 60%) will not be admitted.
In addition to general and program-specific admission requirements all applicants are required to meet our Literacy and Quantitative requirements.
Associate Degree Holders
If you graduated with a BC Associate of Arts or Science degree recognized by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, you will receive preference in admission.
- The minimum average will be established each term at 0.25 GPA points fewer than that required for regular transfer students, but will not be less than 2.00.
- Transfer credit will be given for all individually transferable courses. When the individually assigned credit from all sources totals less than 60 units, additional general elective credit will be assigned to bring the transfer credit total to 60 units.
Douglas/SFU partnership
The Douglas/SFU Degree Partnership Program (DPP) will allow you to move freely and easily between both institutions to complete the requirements of a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a Bachelor of Science degree from the Faculty of Science or one of the degrees offered from the Faculty of Environment at SFU. You'll get the best of both worlds-enjoy the unique benefits of studying in both a smaller college environment and a larger university setting.
WQB Graduation Requirements
All students admitted to SFU beginning in the Fall 2006 semester and thereafter must complete a minimum of 36 credit hours of courses designated as Writing, Quantitative or Breadth, with a grade of C- or better to receive the WQB credits, in order to achieve their undergraduate degree. Students transferring from a BC college with 60 credit hours should consider completing some transferable W, Q and B courses prior to admission to SFU. For more information please refer to SFU's website WQB Graduation Requirements.
