Douglas College is poised for growth. In the next 3 to 5 years, we will expand our learning opportunities while improving our learner pathways.

This exciting mandate follows directly from the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan [PDF], which calls on our learning community to adapt to changing economic and social conditions, and to respond to the increasing need for post-secondary education in our region.

The Program Development and Implementation Funding Envelope (PDIFE) has been created to facilitate this growth. This innovative funding strategy supports the creation of new, credit programs as well as the expansion of existing programs. It provides the financial resources required to take promising ideas through the stages of development and implementation.

Promising ideas are what we need most right now! If you have one, I hope you will participate in this process. We have prepared a Guide (see link on the right) that describes what kind of ideas we need. Initially, all you need to do is submit a 3-page letter of intent. Naturally, though, there is a submission deadline to keep in mind!

Here are a few highlights:

PDIFE overview

  • Supports development/implementation of new degree, diploma, and certificate programs as well as post-degree programs
  • Supports expansion of existing degree programs
  • Supports collaborative program initiatives
  • Supports academic pathways related to Aboriginal learners, second-career learners, third-age learners, and internationalization
  • Provides development funding for producing, acquiring, modifying curriculum and course materials, including web-based materials and resources
  • Provides implementation funding over the first 2 years, to get new programs up and running

PDIFE process and deadlines

  • Applicants must submit a 3-page letter of intent to the Vice President, Academic
  • Letters of intent will be reviewed by the VP Academic, in consultation with members of the Vice President¿s Academic Council and Senior Management Team.
  • Applicants who are eligible to submit a full proposal will be contacted by the Vice President, Academic.

Those are just highlights. For complete details, please read the Guide for Strategic Program Development and Implementation.

I welcome your questions about new program ideas ¿ feel free to email or call me.

For questions about the application process, please contact Anne Gapper.

I look forward to considering your ideas!

Dr. Kathy Denton, Vice President, Academic
