Education:
Post-Degree Diploma in Marketing, Faculty of Business & Commerce, 2010
Currently:
I’m extremely excited to be embarking on my new career in my new job as marketing coordinator at Coast Hotels and working on getting my private pilot’s license.
Hail Caesar:
My main goal in life is to be happy, and secondly, to be the best I can be. I want to be able to look back on my life and say "Veni Vidi Vici" which is Latin for "I came, I saw, I conquered."
Mother knows best:
My mother, Marion Collin is my role model. My mom is a very strong woman, who successfully raised three children, went back to school at the age of 44 and got her CGA designation at the age of 49. She showed me just how important an education is and that you are never too old to achieve your dreams. As well, she has never let anything get in the way of her goals. We are very much alike. Also, my dad, Glen Collin; my dad is the kindest person in the world and has taught me that we never stop learning, as well, he is an amazing artist and I hope to be as good of an artist as him one day.
If I could turn back time
I would tell my 17-year-old self that I am on the right track and to never doubt myself.
Medieval times
I have a degree from the University of Calgary in Ancient and Medieval History. Ideally, I would love to work in marketing for a museum, so that I can combine all my educational experience.
Why Douglas College?
I chose Douglas College because I could get the same Marketing Diploma as offered at other colleges in just one year, instead of two. Furthermore, I didn’t want to go back to school for another four years to get another Bachelors degree in Business. This program was perfect for me. It gave me the training I needed, in minimal time, to fast-track my marketing career.
The best thing about college?
The professors in the Marketing Department were all very helpful, kind, and encouraging. As well, I met a lot of really great people throughout my studies, especially as a member of the Douglas College Business Association.
Valuable lesson:
How to write an effective marketing strategy. The program gave me a lot of opportunities to develop promotional strategies for real companies that needed them. I even got to personally deliver one of my projects to the President of Douglas College, Scott McAlpine, which was a very valuable experience.
Favourite teacher
I liked all of my professors, but if I had to pick one, I would have to say Christina Cawkell. Christina was a huge inspiration for me both as a teacher and as a person. Her classes weren’t easy, but I learned a lot from her that will aid me in my future marketing career. She is also very funny and very friendly.
Words of wisdom
Believe you have the capability to achieve all your dreams and you will.
